Values Audit - How is My School Doing?
In the December issue of the Australian Council of State School Organisation's newsletter Public Education Voice, ACSSO - the national voice of parents in Australia's public schools and their school communities - offered a five minute quiz for schools to examine where they stand on implementing a positive values system.
Based on feedback from principals, teachers, stduents, parents, administrators and community representatives, we have developed this concept into a more specific and actionable tool. It provides, in a very real sense, an opportunity for the key stakeholders in our educational facilities to conduct a values self-audit.
There's no pass mark, no fail mark, no names, no pack drill. It is meant purely to facilitate a process of honest self-examination, with a view to prompting a practical development of policies and procedures at a school level.
We all know values are important, and we all want to offer a secure, positive and affirming school environment in which our children can thrive and develop their commitment to community standards that will see them become well-rounded adults.
That takes work, and it can take some help. We hope this audit will help you to reflect on what you do, and perhaps what you could do better.
